Discover Our World Heritage National Parks

Did you know our region has two World Heritage-listed national parks, just east of Glen Innes? Washpool and Gibraltar Range National Parks are must-dos when you visit! Between them, there is over 80km of walking tracks to explore, as well as beautiful lookouts, great picnic spots and well-positioned campgrounds. Learn more.

Coombadjha Soundtrail

Explore Washpool National Park’s rich history through stories of people who’ve wandered this trail by downloading the Soundtrails app. This audio-immersive experience adds a whole new dimension to your adventure, as you traverse through dramatic gorges, crystal-clear waters and magnificent ancient Gondwana Rainforest. Explore Torrington State Recreation Area

Torrington State Recreation Area covers 30,000 hectares of wilderness, including spectacular rock formations, streams, waterfalls, flora and fauna. Now is a great time to visit to discover the beautiful spring wildflowers in bloom. Two popular attractions here are Mystery Face Rock (pictured) and Thunderbolt's Lookout. Learn more.

Experience Tour Drive 11

Discover the villages of Torrington, Emmaville and Deepwater on Tour Drive 11 (a 140km loop from Glen Innes) through richly contrasting landscapes immersed in the history of the mining boom days. Emmaville Mining Museum is a must-do on this route, with collections and displays that will impress the whole family!

Home to internationally acclaimed Aboriginal Artist Lloyd Gawura Hornsby, Gawuru Gallery is an enjoyable experience for the whole family. Open Wednesday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm by appointment (phone Wendy Hornsby on 0403 383 080). Every child to visit the gallery receives a free boomerang!

Keeping the Kids Happy in Glen Innes Highlands

One child’s awesome day out is another kid’s yawn fest. But don’t worry, there’s lots for all sorts of kids to do in and around town when ‘Are we there yet?’ switches to ‘What are we doing today?’

Rock Hounds

Take your budding geologist out prospecting for the day. The Glen Innes Visitor Information Centre team can provide local tips on where to search for gemstones and crystals such as sapphires, emeralds and aquamarines. Fossicking wash and sieves are also available for sale at the centre, as well as a limited supply of sieves for hire. Learn more.
Visit the Emmaville Mining Museum, where you can see more than 4,000 gem and mineral specimens. And of course, you can’t miss the Australian Standing Stones - the national monument to Celtic people, past and present. You can also walk around incredible granite boulders at Stonehenge just 12km south of Glen Innes.

With more than 15,000 second-hand and antiquarian books to be found in The Book Market, you’ll deserve a gelato from The Furry Cow next door by the time you’ve made it out of here. At The Makers Shed, you’ll also find a collection of books by local and independent authors for all ages.
 

History Buffs

See how local children used to live in the olden days at the Land of the Beardies History House Museum. Eagle-eyed kids can win an iceblock if they manage to spot all of the Beardies around the museum. You can also check out the latest History House museum display at the Glen Innes Highlands Visitor Information Centre, which is all about what it was like to go to school here in Glen Innes. 

Climbers & Sliders

Anzac Park is located in the heart of town with the willow tree-lined Rocky Ponds Creek flowing through its centre. Its fully fenced playground includes a tunnel slide, climbing structures and a Liberty swing for children and adults in wheelchairs. Several blocks west at Melling Park, the kids can play on balance ropes, climbing equipment and more. Learn more. 
Highlands HUB - Your Remote Working Solution
If you're travelling for work or working whilst travelling, we hope you get to experience the many great things to see and do in our town and region. But if you need a quiet and convenient space to work remotely, we have the perfect solution! Highlands HUB is a brand new co-working facility located on the beautiful main street of Glen Innes, where you can book a desk or office for an hour, a day, a week or months at a time. 
The HUB also has meeting rooms, a boardroom, a training room, and a community lounge with a kitchenette if you are after more space to meet, greet and get down to business with everything you need in one place. Hot desks in the community co-working lounge can be booked for just $20 per day, which includes internet, tea & coffee. Highlands HUB opens on Monday 26 September and is located at 167 Grey Street, Glen Innes.
