Endorsed by UNESCO as a means of supporting a range of UNESCO Sustainable Development Goals, holistic in nature, geotourism sees geology and landscape as the foundation bedrock around which society, culture, and ecosystems interact. Geotourism can include experiences to highlight how nature has helped shape a region’s character and how to celebrate how our planet and it’s 4,600 million year long history has shaped every aspect of our lives and our societies.
With our stunning natural landforms including granite outcrops, waterways, flora and fauna and First Nations Peoples and Celtic cultural and mining heritage, Glen Innes has much to share with visitors. Geotourism initiatives include the Glen Innes Highlands Skywalk and Soundtrail as well as upcoming geotrails that will guide visitors through the Stonehenge Recreational Reserve, the World Heritage Way, and other points of interest.
