How to Spend a Summer Day in Glen Innes

Enjoy deliciously warm rather than scorching hot summer days. Avg min 12°C and max 26°C, with around 100mm of rain a month.

8.30am

On Saturdays start your day with coffee and a pastry at the Cottage Markets in the Lions Park where you can find locally grown fruit, honey, preserves and more. Every other day, grab a fresh sandwich from the Glen Pie Shop, where pineapple is an unexpected standard on their salad rolls, and head to the park.

9.30am

Take a stroll through the series of connected parks in the heart of town. See the rotunda and ANZAC memorial and cross vine covered bridges over Rocky Ponds Creek.

10.30am

Discover the joys of garagenalia at John and Josie Ellis’ incredible collection of more than 100 vintage petrol bowsers from around the world. Bookings are by appointment on 0419 030 222.

12.30pm

Enjoy delicious Thai food at the New England Club's Yim Thai  Restaurant (also open for dinner).

1.30pm

Do some laps or simply laze around the pool at the Glen Innes Aquatic Centre where a total overhaul in 2017 saw a new hydrotherapy pool, toddler’s pool and change rooms added to the facilities.

3pm

Treat your taste buds to a gelato at The Furry Cow where the flavours can include burnt caramel and popcorn, and strawberry cheesecake before a spot of shopping along Grey Street.

4.30pm

Drive to Lex Ritchie Park to see just how huge a wind turbine blade really is. Get up close for a happy snap and you’ll never see wind farms the same way again.

5pm

If you’re visiting on a Friday or Saturday it’s cocktail time at The Local After Dark. Try unique local twists on a classic or an entirely new tipple before settling in for dinner. Here another night? The Hereford Steakhouse Char Grill has you covered with grass-fed local beef and interesting New England wines.
