July 2022

Local Tourism & Events News

This month's newsletter brings you the latest updates on tourism projects, events, and business opportunities relevant to local businesses in the tourism industry.

We're midway through winter and this time of year is a great opportunity for local businesses and accommodation providers to get on board and offer some extra warmth for those seeking a winter retreat and fantastic hospitality.

Recently at the Visitor Information Centre, we have been seeing many day-trippers on the weekends (mostly couples on off-peak holidays & first-time visitors). And regular snow chasers from over the border have started their weekly phone calls in the hope of seeing some falls this season. They just love the chance to wear their big jackets, beanies and scarves, and hopefully experience snow close to home!

Please let us know if you are offering a new product, experience or event. Email the details and any promotional material or imagery to [email protected]. You can also upload your event or experience to the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse to leverage a larger audience of potential visitors/customers.

Geotourism Experience Development Underway for Glen Innes Skywalk at Centennial Parklands

Production has begun on the development of themes and concepts that visitors will experience along the Hilltop walk and viewing areas of the Glen Innes Skywalk at Centennial Parklands.
The design, production and delivery of the Skywalk Geotourism visitor experience have been procured to deliver hyper-local mapping technology with audio and Augmented Reality (AR).

A partnership with Naveze, Production Group and Cutting Edge, industry innovators and leaders will deliver 22 audio stories and 360-degree drone footage with AR integrated into a hyper-local mapping platform.

Emmaville Mining Museum Participation in Standards Program

The Emmaville Mining Museum is taking part in the 2022 Museums & Galleries of NSW Standards Program. This will assist the museum in developing a strategic plan through an extensive self-review, visits from consultants, and the formation of an action plan to assist ongoing improvements and succession planning, ensuring the museum continues to draw visitors from all over Australia.

Bouldering - New Tourism Product

Members of the University of New England (UNE) Outdoor Adventure Club took part in a day of bouldering at Stonehenge Recreation Reserve to assist with the creation of new content to feature on the Glen Innes Highlands website.

The inclusion and promotion of information about this growing sport via our website will help to attract boulderers from local and international markets, supported by links such as thecrag.com - the largest collaborative rock climbing and bouldering platform.

Electric Vehicle Destination Charging Grants

Businesses can apply for funding to invest in Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations for their premises. With EV owners planning trips around charging locations, an investment in EV charging by your business can:

  • attract new visitors to your site
  • enhance your visitors’ experience
  • increase the average length of time visitors spend at your site
  • enable you to promote your location and EV charging facilities through online charging maps, future EV tourist drives, and word-of-mouth

Applications close 5pm, Friday 23 September, 2022.
