The Glen Innes Highlands Destination Management Plan 2021-2026 (DMP) was adopted by Glen Innes Severn Council at the July 2021 Ordinary Council meeting and positions Glen Innes Highlands as a place where adventure meets nature, culture and history.
The DMP identifies key growth opportunities for tourism in the Glen Innes Severn Local Government Area (LGA) and recognises cycle tourism as a strong, high growth opportunity for new product and marketing to attract visitors. One action set out in the DMP is to develop touring routes and activity-based trails that benefit Glen Innes and surrounding villages.
Part of the “twowheeltours” and “goodnessgravel” audit included scoping out the area as a destination for a gravel ride event. This audit produced a positive outcome. As a result, in April 2022 “goodnessgravel” will return to host their inaugural 2 day Glen Innes Gravel Fondo Event, supported by Glen Innes Severn Council.
This event will bring experienced riders together to explore exciting locations in Glen Innes Highlands. Meeting at King George V Oval Glen Innes at 7.30am each morning on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 April 2022, riders will set out to conquer a series of courses. This event is not for the faint hearted, being designed for experienced riders with distances starting at 55km up to 100km.
