For the experienced fossickers there are a multitude of great spots for the keen speculators. At the Yarrow Creek Bridge, less than 25km south east of Glen Innes, at Pinkett, you can fossick for topaz, garnet, zircon and sapphires. Follow the Pinkett Rd another 25km out (Gravel Road) to Kookabookra, an old mining settlement area, and you have over 500m of river access at Sara River Bridge. Along with topaz and sapphires there is an abundance of quartz and crystals.

35km east of Glen Innes on the Gwydir highway is Timbarra River Bridge and 24km north-west at the Wellingrove Creek Bridge you can fossick for sapphires and zircon.

20km south of Glen Innes at the lovely village of Glencoe there is a dedicated fossicking reserve and not very far east of Glencoe at the Mann River Bridge on the Glen Legh Rd is another great fossicking spot. Glencoe has a lovely pub and convenience store for refreshments.

Emmaville and Torrington, once thriving mining towns, still have great spots open to the public for fossicking. Visit the Emmaville Mining Museum in the village of Emmaville or explore the designated fossicking areas within the Torrington State recreation Area.

Whatever your fossicking experience there is to be plenty to be gained by visiting the Glen Innes Highlands this summer.
